Scene Around Town: Devonian Botanic Garden
The Devonian Botanic Garden
is located about twenty minutes outside of Edmonton in the town of Devon. Seasonal gardens
show off the natural beauty of flowers, shrubs, bushes and even cactus plants.
Many of the gardens have themes, most notably the Kurimoto Japanese Garden,
is one of the few Japanese styled gardens in a norther altittude. Other featured displays include
floral beds, alpine plants and a pond with a wildlife viewing area
No visit to the Devonian Botanic Garden would be complete without stopping by the Butterfly House.
It is a humid environment where many different kinds of butterflies fly freely -- and if you are lucky, a few of the creatures may land on you!
There is a concession featuring light snacks and meals and two wheelchair-accessible washrooms. The Garden is open from early May to early December. Admission for adults is $5.25,
for seniors (over 65) it is $4.75, for youths (4-12) it is $3.50 and for the little ones under four, admission is free.
