You love the city and taking the sites and attractions here in Edmonton, but are constantly mistaken for a tourist. If you want to avoid this annoying and embarassing situation, follow these instructions.

1. Don't look awestruck when strolling through West Edmonton Mall.
2. When attending outdoor festivals, avoid lugging around expensive cameras and photographic equipment.
3. If you take the bus, plan your route ahead of time -- don't ask every bus driver that passes the stop when your bus is expected to arrive.
4. Keep up on local news so that when strangers at the bus stop, coffee shop or bar ask your opinion, you actually have one.
5. Know the names and sports of each respective team in the city: Oilers (hockey), Trappers (baseball) and Drillers (soccer).
   

1. If you ever run into people you yourself suspect are tourists, be sure to offer help or directions.
2. Reading newspapers and magazines, as well as keeping up with television and radio news are the best way to stay on top of local events.
