Edmonton’s refined nature is mixed side-by-side with the screams and chaos of the midway for 10 days in late July
at Edmonton’s Capital EX. This exhibition is a celebration and reflection for this diverse community, encompassing both
the city’s wildly outrageous character in its rides and on its many performance stages, and the city’s more cultural side
with exhibits of fine arts and culture, and a massive musical theatre production.
The 166-acre Northlands site is lit up by the midway lights and nightly fireworks, rocked by the sounds of the counry’s
best bands onstage and the screams of ride-lovers, permeated with the scent of corndogs and mini-donuts, and clouded with
the dusty haze of the thoroughbred races.
These sites, sounds and scents have become an annual tradition for generations of families in Edmonton’s Capital Region,
attracting 700-800,000 people each year. Mixed amidst the familiar favourites are an ever-changing assortment of attractions
and entertainment that make each year a new experience with fresh memories to last until the next year’s Capital EX rolls around again.
Capital EX will take place this year from July 17 to 26, 2008.
